product description

Definition of combination pliers

Combination pliers with a notched inner grip for holding and grasping round objects and cutting and bending wire. They are characterized by a pair of jaws with flat, serrated, or smooth surfaces, and are typically made of steel or other durable materials. The wedged jaws provide a non-slip grip for holding and bending small objects and the grip is made strong by the hook bend in both handles. The cutting edge, which is a breaking edge since it is not sharp like a knife-edge, can cut through heavy or large-gauge wire.

Combination pliers are heavy-duty pliers,  also known as lineman pliers, which are designed for all regular wire-cutting needs. They have jaws, an edge, and insulating handle grips that reduce (but don't eliminate) the risk of electric shock from contact with live wires. This combination of features makes for a versatile tool found in every electrician's and home tool kit.

The cutting edge, which is a breaking edge since it is not sharp like a knife-edge, can cut through heavy or large-gauge wire. Finally, this type of pliers is heavy and tough enough to be used as a small hammer for use with a chisel or screwdriver, or to pound in various types of hardware, especially staples and small nails.

Combination pliers are typically machined from forged steel. The two handles are precisely joined with a heavy-duty rivet that maintains the pliers' accuracy even after repeated use under extreme force on heavy-gauge wire, and even use as a hammer.

Combination pliers are designed to provide a secure grip on a variety of materials, and are often preferred over other types of pliers due to their versatility and adaptability. They are typically smaller and more compact than other types of pliers, which makes them easier to use in tight spaces or for detailed work.

Use of combination pliers

Combination pliers are multi-purpose pliers, combining jaws with wire cutters. They can be used for gripping, compressing, bending, twisting, extracting and cutting various materials. It has jaws designed to be especially versatile. The flat part can easily hold stock, while the rounded cut-out section is designed to hold rounded stock, such as small tubes and pipes, without crushing it.

Some common uses for combination pliers include:

Gripping and holding small objects

Combination pliers can be used to grip and hold small objects, such as wire, cable, or nuts and bolts. They are designed to provide a secure grip and can be used to hold objects in place while working on them.

Cutting wire and other materials

Many combination pliers have sharp, serrated jaws that can be used to cut wire or other materials. They may also have a built-in wire stripper, which can be used to remove the insulation from electrical wire.

Bending and shaping

Combination pliers can be used to bend and shape wire or other materials. They can be used to create tight bends or to shape materials into specific shapes.

Tightening and loosening nuts and bolts

Combination pliers can be used to tighten or loosen small nuts and bolts, particularly in tight or hard-to-reach places.

mini combination pliers

Mini combination pliers are a smaller version of regular combination pliers that are designed for use in tight spaces or for detailed work. They are typically smaller and more compact than regular combination pliers and have a shorter handle, which makes them easier to use in confined spaces or for tasks that require a higher level of precision.
